a. Why is the computer a powerful tool?

Ans: A computer is a powerful tool because it is able to perform input, process, output, and storage with a very high speed in a few seconds. It is also more reliable and accurate. 

b. What is the basic working principle of the computer?

Ans: The basic working principle of the computer is Input, Process, Output, and Storage.

c. Name the computer on the basis of brand.

Ans: The types of computers on the basics of the brand are as below:

i. International Business Machine (IBM) Personal Computer

ii. International Business Machine (IBM) Compatible Computer

iii. Apple/Machintosh Computer.

d. Write any four limitations of using the computer.

Ans: Any four limitations of using the computer are:

i) It does not have self-thinking power.

ii) It cannot be used in dusty and rough environments.

iii) It is an expensive device, so it is not affordable for all.

iv) Skilled manpower is required to work with the computer.

e. Write any three differences between IBM PC and IBM Compatible.

Ans: The computer is used to record and store customer information, account balances, and transactions. It is also used to process customer requests and transactions.

Ans: Computers are popular in education these days because they allow students to have more control over their learning. They also provide a more interactive and engaging learning experience.

j. Define the term: Versatile and accuracy.

The term versatile in computer refers to the ability of a computer to perform a variety of tasks. A versatile computer is one that is able to perform a wide range of tasks, including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and internet browsing.

a. What is input hardware? Name any four input hardware.

Ans: The devices that are used to input data and instructions into the computer are called input devices. Example: Keyboard, Mouse, Scanner, Joystick. b. Name various keys found on a keyboard.

Ans: The various keys found on a keyboard are:

i) Alphanumeric Keys

ii) Control Keys

iii) Function keys

iv) Navigation keys

v) Numeric Keypad

c. Write down the functions of the mouse.

Ans: The functions of the mouse are:

i) Move the mouse cursor

ii) Open or execute a program

d. Define output hardware with its examples.

Ans: The devices that are used to give output or information from the computer are called output hardware. Example: Monitor, Speaker, Printer

e. Define the types of monitors.

Ans: The different types of monitors are:

CRT Monitor, LCD Monitor, LED Monitor f. Mention any two advantages of LED monitor.

Ans: The different advantages of the LED monitors are:

i) It is typically less expensive and more reliable.

ii) It can run at a lower temperature and consume less power. g. What is a printer? Name some printers.

Ans: A Printer is a hardcopy output device that is used to print text, graphics, and images normally on paper. Example: Dot-Matrix printer, Inkjet Printer, Ledger Printer. h. Why is the monitor called a softcopy output and the printer called a hard copy output hardware?

Ans: The monitor shows the information or output (pictures, text) in a visual format so it is also called Softcopy output.

The printer is used to give output on the paper and it is permanent so it is called hardcopy output. i. Write some advantages of laser printers.

Ans: Some advantages of laser printers are:

i) It has a very high speed and it is more efficient.

ii) It produces high-quality output.

iii) It is quiet and does not produce any sound.

iv) It can produce the colour print. j. Define light pen, joystick, and drum printer.

Ans:

Light Pen :

A light pen is an input device with a light-sensitive pointer that is used to input and draw a picture on the screen of the computer.

Joystick:

The joystick is also an input device of a computer it is mainly used to play computer games.

Drum printer:

A drum printer is a type of printer which consist of a solid, cylindrical drum that has raised characters in bands on its surface.

a. Define the term 'Computer System'.
Ans: Computer System is a combination of hardware and software.
b.  What is the computer software? Does hardware can work without software.

Ans: The computer software is the set of instructions given to the program to complete the task. No, hardware cannot work without software.

c. What are the major two types of software?

Ans: The major two types of software are: System software and Application software.

d. Define system software and application software.

Ans: A system software is computer software that is used to control and coordinate with the computer hardware.

The computer software which is developed to help the user to perform a specific task is called application software.

e. Name any six popular application software.

Ans: Six popular application software are:

i) Word processing software

ii) Database programs 

iii) Entertainment software

iv) Business software

v) Educational software 

vi) Spreadsheet software.

f. Write down the types of application software.

Ans: The types of application software are: Packaged software and Tailored software.

g. What is package software? Write with examples.

Ans: Package software is ready-made, advanced, and standard software for general works. Example: word processing, graphic, web-designing software, etc.

h. Define tailored software with some examples. 

Ans: Tailored software is a small software developed in a higher-level language for specific small processes. Software for payroll, software for railway reservations, hotel reservations, etc are examples of tailored software.

a. What is storage? Name any four popular storage media that you know.
Ans: A computing hardware that is used for storing and extracting data, files, and programs is called storage. example: Harddisk, RAM, ROM, Pendrive, etc. 
b. What are the types of storage media? Name them.
Ans: The different types of storage devices are: Primary storage devices and Secondary storage devices. 
c. Define Primary memory with example?
Ans: Primary memory is the internal storage device of a computer. It is used to store data and applications currently in use or being processed.

d. Why is RAM considered as a volatile memory? 

Ans: The RAM is called volatile memory because if the computer is turned off, all data contained in the RAM get lost. 

e. What is ROM? Why is it called non-volatile memory?

Ans: ROM is a popular primary storage device which we may only read data from it. It is difficult to write or modify data in ROM. It is mostly used for firmware updates. 

The data stored in ROM does not erase if the computer is turned off so it is called non-volatile memory.

f. Write any three differences between Hard Disk and Floppy Disk.

1. It controls all the hardware components and software programs of the computer.

2. It manages the computer's memory like primary and secondary.

3. It provides an interface between the user and the machine.

A directory or folder is a virtual location where programs, files, and other folders are stored. 



e. What is Windows? When was the first version of windows released?

Ans: Windows is the most popular operating system software developed by Microsoft Corporation USA. 

The first version of windows was released in 1985 AD. 

f.What is the Desktop? Name any six icons available on the desktop.

Ans: Desktop is the first windows screen that you get after starting your computer. Some icons available on the desktop are: Computer, Network, user, Recycle bin, Document, Control panel etc. 

g. How do we shut down the computer? Write with steps.

Ans: Steps to shut down the computer are:

Step 1. Save all the documents and close all the programs.

Step 2. Click on the start button.

Step 3. Select Turn off the computer

Now the computer will automatically shut down after this switch off the monitor and main power supply. 



h. Write down the steps to create a folder on the desktop.

Ans: Steps to create a folder on the desktop are:

Step 1: Right-click on the blank area of the desktop.

Step 2 : Click on New and select folder from the list.

Step 3. A new folder will appear on the desktop and give the name of the folder.
