Ans: The word computer is derived from the Latin word "Computare"
which means to calculate.
b. What are the basic parts of computer?
Ans: Monitor, System unit, Keyboard and mouse are the basic parts of computer.
c. Draw pictures of front view of a system unit.
d) How does a computer work? Explain with example.
Ans: Computer works in three steps Input >> Process >> Output and
this is the basic working principle of computer.

a. What are input devices? Write any four examples.
Ans: The devices that are used to enter data and
instructions into the computer are called input devices. Eg. keyboard, mouse
touch pad, touch screen, Joystick etc.
b. Explain the method of using touch pad.
Ans: Method of using touch pad are given below:
i) To move the pointer on the screen move your finger around
on the touchpad.
ii) To select an object on the screen position the pointer
over the object and click once.
iii) To start a program or open file position the pointer
over the object an double click on it.
iv) To access a shortcut menu position the pointer over the
object and click right button once.
v) to move an object on the screen position the pointer over
the object and press left button and hold it and use touch pad to move
it.
c. What are output devices? Write some commonly used output
devices.
Ans: The device that are used to get output from the
computer are called output device. Example: Monitor, speaker, printer.
d. What is monitor? Write its types.
Ans: Monitor is a primary output device of computer. It is
also known as Visual Display Unit (VDU). It gives us soft copy output that is
displayed on the screen.
e. What is printer? Write its types?
Ans: Printer is the basic output device that is used to
print the output on the paper. The output printed on the paper is called hard
copy output. There are three types of printer they are: Dot Matrix Printer,
Inkjet Printer, Laser Printer.
f. What is speaker?
Ans: Speaker is an output device which produce different
sound from the computer and it is also used to listen music or sound in the
computer.
g. What is scanner? Write its any two uses.
Ans: Scanner is an input device that optically scans images,
printed text or an object, and sends them to the computer. It is also called
the direct entry or non-keyboard input devices.
h. What is joystick?
Ans: Joystick is an input device that is often used to play
computer games.

e. How can you resize the program window?

operating system.
c. What are the different components of Word Pad window?
Ans: The different components of Word Pad window are: Quick Access Toolbar,
Title bar, Ribbon, Ruler, Text area, Control buttons, Status Bar, Zoom Control
etc.
d. What do you mean by cursor? What does it indicate?
Ans: A blinking vertical line in the document called cursor
that indicates where the next text that you type will appear.
e. Write different methods for selecting the text.

1. To select a word : Double click on particular word.
2. To select a paragraph : Triple click on any word in
particular paragraph.
3. To select all the words in the document : Press Ctrl+a

Ans: Changing the position of the text on the page is called

k. What is title bar?
Ans: Title bar is the horizontal bar located at the top
most part of the paint program window it shows the currently opened document.

Ans: Scroll bar appears on the side or bottom of a window of
ms-word which is used to scroll the document.
m. What is quick access toolbar?
Ans: Quick access tollbar is the place of word documet which
contains frequently used commands.
n. What is find and replace
Ans:Find command is used to find a particular word /text in
a document and Replace command is used to replace the particular word/text in
the document.

Ans: Paint Program is used to draw a different pictures and color them on the
computer.

Ans: MS-Paint is the most popular drawing and painting program developed by
Microsoft Corporation.
c. What is the use of Ribbon in Ms-Paint?
Ans: In Ms-paint you can see different tools in the Ribbon with the help of
these tools you can draw pictures and colour them.
d. How can you rotate and resize your drawing?
Ans: You can see resize and rotate option in the Image group

e. What is the use of shape option in ms paint?

Web site is a collection of web pages that are related to each other by a
certain topic. Website is created by a person or an organization to give
information about business, product or services etc.

URL or Uniform Resource Locator is the address of a website or web page on the
internet. Every web site has unique address which is used to visit web page or
web site. eg: www.google.com
Home Page
A home page is the first page of a web site. It is the first page that browser opens
when you access a website.

Web browser is a special type of software that is
used to access resources on the internet which allows us to view, download,
upload, surf or access document on the world wide web.

Ans: To open browser click on the start button then select all programs option
there you can see a browser software installed in your computer like internet
