Ans: Computer is an electronic machine that can perform different kinds of tasks according to a set of instructions given to it.
a. Define a computer.
Ans: The word computer is derived from the Latin word "Computare" which means to calculate.
b. What are the basic parts of computer?
Ans: Monitor, System unit, Keyboard and mouse are the basic parts of computer.
c. Draw pictures of front view of a system unit.


d) How does a computer work? Explain with example.
Ans: Computer works in three steps Input >> Process >> Output and this is the basic working principle of computer.

e) Write any four characteristics of a computer.
Ans: Any four characteristics of a computer are : High speed, Accuracy, Diligent, Versatile etc.

Ans: A group of programs that performs a particular task is called software.

Answer the following questions

a. What are input devices? Write any four examples.

Ans: The devices that are used to enter data and instructions into the computer are called input devices. Eg. keyboard, mouse touch pad, touch screen, Joystick etc.

b. Explain the method of using touch pad.

Ans: Method of using touch pad are given below:

i) To move the pointer on the screen move your finger around on the touchpad.

ii) To select an object on the screen position the pointer over the object and click once.

iii) To start a program or open file position the pointer over the object an double click on it.

iv) To access a shortcut menu position the pointer over the object and click right button once.

v) to move an object on the screen position the pointer over the object and press left button and hold it and use touch pad to move it. 

c. What are output devices? Write some commonly used output devices.

Ans: The device that are used to get output from the computer are called output device. Example: Monitor, speaker, printer.

d. What is monitor? Write its types.

Ans: Monitor is a primary output device of computer. It is also known as Visual Display Unit (VDU). It gives us soft copy output that is displayed on the screen.

e. What is printer? Write its types?

Ans: Printer is the basic output device that is used to print the output on the paper. The output printed on the paper is called hard copy output. There are three types of printer they are: Dot Matrix Printer, Inkjet Printer, Laser Printer.

f. What is speaker?

Ans: Speaker is an output device which produce different sound from the computer and it is also used to listen music or sound in the computer.

g. What is scanner? Write its any two uses.

Ans: Scanner is an input device that optically scans images, printed text or an object, and sends them to the computer. It is also called the direct entry or non-keyboard input devices.

h. What is joystick?

Ans: Joystick is an input device that is often used to play computer games. 

i. Write any four differences between LED and CRT Monitor.

Ans: Computer memory is the place of the computer where data and instructions are stored. Example: RAM, Harddisk, Pendrive etc.

b. What is primary memory? Write with examples.

Ans: Primary memory is the internal memory of the computer that is fixed on the motherboard. Example: RAM, ROM.

c. What are the differences between RAM and ROM.

f. What is meant by optical storage device?

Ans: Optical storage device means the laser beams are used to read data from it and to write data into it.

g. What is meant by firmware?

Ans: Microsoft windows is the most widely used operating system software developed by Microsoft Corporation USA.
c) What is Microsoft Windows-7?
Ans: Microsoft Windows -7 is the most popular version of Windows operating system software.
d) What are the different parts of programs windows?
Ans: The different parts of programs windows are Quick access toolbar, Title bar, Ribbon, Scroll Bar,
Drawing area  (working area) etc.
e. How can you resize the program window?
Ans: To resize program window, hover your mouse cursor over an edge of the window and Click, hold and drag till the window is in the size you want.

Ans: File are the systematic collection of related data and information in the computer.

a. What is word processor? Write three examples of word processing software.
Ans: Word processor is a software that allows you to create, edit, view, format and print text document in the computer. Example : Ms-Word, Word Pad, Word Star etc.
b. What is Word Pad?
Ans: Word pad is a basic word processor program that comes with windows operating system.
c. What are the different components of Word Pad window?
Ans: The different components of Word Pad window are: Quick Access Toolbar, Title bar, Ribbon, Ruler, Text area, Control buttons, Status Bar, Zoom Control etc.
d. What do you mean by cursor? What does it indicate?

Ans: A blinking vertical line in the document called cursor that indicates where the next text that you type will appear.
e. Write different methods for selecting the text.

Ans: The different methods for selecting the text is given below:

1. To select a word : Double click on particular word.

2. To select a paragraph : Triple click on any word in particular paragraph.

3. To select all the words in the document : Press Ctrl+a button from the keyboard.
f. What is difference between copying and moving?

1. When you copy the text, The text also stays in the original location and then also gets copied to a new location. 

1) Moving means removing the text from one place to another.

2) Copying means creating a duplicate copy of the text.

2)When you move the text, It is gone from the original location. 


g. What is the use of Undo and Redo command?
Ans: The use of undo command is to cancel the last action performed on the document and Redo command is used to repeat the previous task that was canceled by Undo command.
h. What do you mean by formatting a document?
Ans: Formatting means the arrangement of texts in a proper manner like changing font style, color, font size etc.
i. What is the use of Find and Replace command?
Ans: Find command is used to find a particular word /text in a document and Replace command is used to replace the particular word/text in the document.

j. What is text alignment?

Ans: Changing the position of the text on the page is called text alignment.

k. What is title bar?

Ans: Title bar is the horizontal bar located at the top most part of the paint program window it shows the currently opened document.

l. What is scroll bar?

Ans: Scroll bar appears on the side or bottom of a window of ms-word which is used to scroll the document.

m. What is quick access toolbar?

Ans: Quick access tollbar is the place of word documet which contains frequently used commands. 

n. What is find and replace

Ans:Find command is used to find a particular word /text in a document and Replace command is used to replace the particular word/text in the document.

o. What is status bar?

Ans: Paint Program is used to draw a different pictures and color them on the computer.

c. What is the use of Ribbon in Ms-Paint?
Ans: In Ms-paint you can see different tools in the Ribbon with the help of these tools you can draw pictures and colour them.
d. How can you rotate and resize your drawing?

Ans: You can see resize and rotate option in the Image group of the Home tab with the help of this option you can rotate and resize your drawing.
e. What is the use of shape option in ms paint?

     World Wide Web (WWW) is a system for finding document on the internet. In the World wide web, millions of documents are linked with each other using HYPER TEXT link.

    A web page is a document that is connected to the world wide web. Web page is created by using a programming language called HTML.
Web site
Web site is a collection of web pages that are related to each other by a certain topic. Website is created by a person or an organization to give information about business, product or services etc.
URL
URL or Uniform Resource Locator is the address of a website or web page on the internet. Every web site has unique address which is used to visit web page or web site. eg: www.google.com
Home Page
A home page is the first page of a web site. It is the first page that browser opens when you access a website.
Web browser
       Web browser is a special type of software that is used to access resources on the internet which allows us to view, download, upload, surf or access document on the world wide web.

e. How can you open a browser on your computer?
Ans: To open browser click on the start button then select all programs option there you can see a browser software installed in your computer like internet explorer, google chrome or Opera just click on that.
f. How can you open any website on the internet?
Ans: To open website on the internet follow these steps:
Step 1: Open the internet Explorer Browser.
Step 2 : Type the website address (URL) on the address bar.
